Evaluation & Testing

Midwest Research has the expertise to conduct a wide variety of evaluations and tests to determine the usability of your design. We can work in person or remotely at any stage of development.

Expert Evaluations

These are quick reviews, resulting in easy-to-understand findings and recommendations. Our evaluations include these methods:

  • Heuristic evaluation
  • Cognitive walkthrough
  • Accessibility review (Section 508 and WCAG)

Usability Testing

We test paper prototypes (lo-fi), functional prototypes (mid to hi-fi), and finished products that are ready for redesign. We can support your team or handle all related tasks such as planning, scheduling, working with recruiters, conducting and analyzing the studies.

We conduct the following types of usability tests:

  • Think-aloud protocol (TAP)
  • RITE (Rapid Iterative Testing and Evaluation)
  • A/B Testing (comparing multiple designs)
  • Exploratory/competitive studies
  • Traditional usability tests

Midwest Research’s portable usability lab enables us to easily conduct the study at the user’s location.
We also conduct testing:

  • in a full lab setting;
  • on-site using our portable usability lab (at conferences, events, etc.); and
  • virtually with online remote testing software, and/or on the phone
